About Georgie's Penny Jar:

Georgie's Penny Jar is an effort to collect pennies (though other money is welcome!) to help end hunger in our country. Georgie is a 4 year old girl who upon hearing the alarming statistics on the number of children and adults in our country who do not have enough to eat decided she wanted to help.
I am her mom and will be helping her raise money for her cause. Our chosen organization to receive the donated money is Feeding America (http://feedingamerica.org/) though we welcome suggestions of other groups and are looking into local charities as well.

One Week In

One week in on Georgie's Penny Jar and the rough numbers are:

Pennies Rolled: $12.50
Donation to Virtual Food Drive: $25.00
Pennies not rolled: Guessing about $10
Other change not rolled: Guessing about $15 (Quarters, Dimes and Nickels add up fast!)

So that makes the rough count for the first week about $62!  That is just the first week and once the holidays are over I am guessing people will have more time to get involved.  We have at least 6 or so friends and family who have started jars in their homes to help.  If you haven't yet start yours today!

Remember every dollar we raise will provide 8 meals for Americans facing hunger.

  1. Two more donations to the Virtual Food Drive today making the total raised about $100. In just a week!! That is 800 meals for hungry people.
Georgie is so excited that so many people are getting involved. She is having a lot of fun with the penny rolling too but I seem to be doing most of the rolling so far while she supervises.
